Teaching philosophy

Education in the arts is something that all students are capable of with a caring and supportive instructor. It is my role to create an encouraging environment that will allow my students to grow and flourish. A schedule based on student investigations, constructing a lesson plan incorporating student choices and engaging my learners with up-to-date technologies as well as traditional art media are elements I strive for in my teaching. By offering spaces in the classroom based on inquiry, exploration of the basic foundations of art skills (line, shape, form, value, space, texture, and color) naturally occur. I wish to encourage this inquiry and desire to learn in all my students, to create artists and lifelong learners.

As a teacher I want to add to a community that empowers my students by involving them in student art displays and funding in the arts. Teaching is an opportunity to encourage my students to find their passion and give them the support they need to go into any subject and field. Art skills give children a huge edge in all parts of education and pursuits. For me, teaching art is a process that incorporates patience, time and a willingness to support my students in independent expressions.

My teaching philosophy is based on choice-based perspective which means the student leads the way in deciding what they would like to create. The benefits are hugely rewarding as my students feel heard, appreciated, and respected. The art of teaching is seeing each student for who they are and knowing they will be future artists, doctors, inventors, entrepreneurs, or teachers. As an art instructor, I feel it is important to realize students are not "one-size-fits-all," but are diverse and complex individuals.
